I hold qualifications in Arts and law and a Master of Laws degree. I recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Studies. I am a Notary Public and am admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and High Court of Australia. I am currently applying for candidature for a PhD at the University of New South Wales. My industry currency, teaching experience and research skills make me an ideal candidate for this position as I have a strong track record in the postgraduate tertiary sector with a demonstrated ability to effectively combine theoretical teaching in a practical skills-based context. Over the past 13 years I have made a considerable contribution to teaching at various public institutions such as the Australian Catholic University, La Trobe University Law School and Victoria University in Business Law, Business Communications, Taxation and Corporations Law at the postgraduate level. I have experience in curriculum development, assessment design and implementation. I deliver in both asynchronous and synchronous modalities across online, faceto-face and blended/block learning to deliver course content. The utilisation of e-learning delivery platforms, such as Moodle and Canvas, assessment marking and student consultations are also integral to my position. I regularly conduct academic and administrative aspects of the courses and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills which permit me to relate well with students, many of whom are professionals working in an industry that expects a high level of service from educational providers. Equally, I have a proven track record with international students and have an appreciation and sensitivity to their unique educational requirements. As a practicing senior commercial lawyer for over 17 years, I have solid industry currency and experience in business, corporate governance and risk management. I have advised major corporations such as Channel Seven, Qantas, Telstra and Harvey Norman. My role involves the negotiation of complex commercial agreements and the provision of regulatory advice on corporate restructuring, risk management, governance and compliance under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (Cth) and the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). I have experience in advising clients across a broad range of legal, risk management, governance and operational contexts. I have an excellent appreciation of how business and corporations’ law is applied to meet clients’ needs. For example, I have represented clients and board members in relation to the legal restructuring of business entities, drafted commercial agreements and worked alongside other service professionals, such as auditors and accountants, to achieve positive client outcomes. I also have a longstanding engagement with scholarship, research and professional development. I have a strong commitment to teaching and research and regularly participate in conferences to further these skills. In addition, I have published articles and presented extensively at seminars in London in banking and finance regulation and corporate takeovers law. I have successfully implemented into my teaching practice various experiential learning methodologies, such as field trips to the Courts and Parliament, discussion of real case scenarios, simulated exercises and specialist guest presenters from agencies such the Australian Taxation Office. These strategies promulgate the application and integration of doctrinal concepts into contextually relevant practical situations. Such pedagogical strategies situate learning in a manner that engages students to critically analyse legal and business problems from both a theoretical and a practical perspective. It is through this lens that the educational journey becomes a holistic experience that develops a foundation of transferable work integrated learning skills. These can be broadly applied to assist graduates to become effective and well-rounded future professionals.
