On the morning of November 23, the 12th "BoYa Academic Lecture" was held in Conference Room 317 of the Office Building at Puhe Campus of Liaoning University. Professor Chen Wenjuan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics and Professor in the Department of Management and Strategy at The University of Hong Kong, attended the event as the keynote speaker. Professor Huo Chunhui, Standing Committee Member of the Communist Party Committee and Vice President of Liaoning University, was present and introduced the keynote speaker. The lecture was hosted by Huo Weidong, Deputy Director of the Economics Division of Liaoning University.
Professor Chen Wenjuan delivered a lecture titled "When Do Transnational Institutions Matter for Multinational Corporations’ Location Choice," discussing the impact of bilateral trade and trade preferences on multinational corporations' market entry. The study, based on a sample of 13,011 foreign market entries by 1,129 multinational corporations from 73 host countries between 2005 and 2017, proposed that a better bilateral institutional environment facilitates transnational development. However, this effect is weakened under conditions of high market uncertainty, significant institutional voids, and high levels of multiple embeddedness. Professor Chen also elaborated on the implications of the findings for multinational corporations and policymakers and offered suggestions for future research. Her presentation, supported by extensive robustness data analysis, focused on the theoretical forefront of multinational corporations' market entry, offering novel perspectives and clear insights with significant theoretical and practical relevance.
After the lecture, faculty and students actively engaged with Professor Chen, who responded to all questions and participated in lively discussions. Professor Huo Chunhui, Vice President of Liaoning University, presented Professor Chen Wenjuan with a commemorative certificate for the "BoYa Academic Lecture." Student representatives from the Asia-Australia Business College presented flowers to Professor Chen as a token of appreciation.
The event was attended by over 70 participants, including Professor Li Yanzhi, Dean of the Social Science Research Institute of Liaoning University; members of the leadership team of the Asia-Australia Business College; staff from the Asia-Australia Business College and the Social Science Research Institute; and faculty and student representatives from the Asia-Australia Business College.
